Everton vs Chelsea: Blue meets Blue

footandball

Chelsea, Everton, Manchester, West Ham, Stoke, a feast of Premier league football. Saturdays wouldn’t be the same without the BPL. The excitement, the energy, the fans… Hundreds of millions worth of players fighting tooth and nail for the winning goal. The Premier League is simply incomparable to any other in the world.

In today’s schedule, the 2014/15 Champions Chelsea, host Everton. This game promises to be a tight one, pinning two blue teams against each other. Both teams have been performing relatively well this season, and find themselves in contention for a European league position.

Everton:

This season, Ronald Koeman’s team has been performing better than expected. Everton find themselves in sixth place, having had a relatively recent dry streak of one win, two ties and two losses in the last five games. Such a run is piling the pressure to perform on this talented team.

Leading the line, Lukaku already has seven goals and three assists to his name. He seems to be having yet another season of bullying premier league defenses ahead of him, having already racked up 50+ goals over three seasons for his team.

The biggest problem for Everton probably lies in a recently leaky defense. Koeman’s team has failed to keep more than one clean sheet for the past five competitive fixtures. With Everton having failed to win a game at Stamford Bridge in the past 21 fixtures, this seems to announce itself as a big mountain to climb for the Liverpool based team.

Chelsea:

With four wins and one loss in their past five fixtures, Chelsea seem to be enjoying an excellent streak. Ever since the switch to 343 engineered by Antonio Conte, the Blues have yet to concede a goal in the EPL. With 11 goals scored over the last five games, and only two conceded, the London Blues are establishing themselves as title contenders and a force to be reckoned with.

One remarkable feat has been the imperious form of Diego Costa who currently finds himself top of the scoring charts in the Premier League. The striker has enjoyed a change of fortunes under the guidance of the new Italian manager.

Furthermore, Hazard looks a hundred times better than he was last season, having recovered from a disastrous 2015/16 season. The diminutive Belgian has already scored five goals, one more than he mustered over all of last season. The fans seem to be feeling good, as Twitter is booming with Conte memes.

Conclusion:

Coming to Stamford bridge is no easy task for any team in the league. With Everton having failed to win any of their last twenty one Stamford Bridge fixtures. This streak spans over twenty two years, making the task seem even harder.

This game promises to be a head turning fixture. Can Chelsea establish themselves as truly in form team? Or will Everton take the chance of breaking the streak and coming away with their first win in almost two decades. One thing is for sure, the fans will be left drooling, with this fixture having witnessed some exquisite goals, such as Matic’s strike last season.
